Gateway to Glacier Trail

Coming in July 2016 – a separated bike and pedestrian path connects Hungry Horse, Montana with West Glacier, a full 12 miles of paved pathways affording beautiful views from the safety of the trail. The Gateway to Glacier Trail is made possible by an amazing group of dedicated locals who are committed to seeing the Flathead Valley linked to Glacier National Park via this trail. Once you reach West Glacier, you can cross the original Belton Bridge and pedal through park headquarters two miles to Apgar Village and Lake McDonald on a lovely, relatively flat, paved trail through the woods.

Cycling has an exciting future for Columbia Falls, as the trail group continues to work on completing a riverside loop along the Flathead river just outside Columbia Falls, and through the Gateway to Glacier to the western entrance to Glacier National Park. Along the way, an array of road side attractions, from a water slide park to zip lines, huckleberry pie shops to a petting zoo with a view of Glacier’s peaks make for fun and interesting rest stops.
